YouTube goes widescreen

It was only a matter of time.

YouTube, the online video megasite, has finally gone widescreen. "Over the years we've heard a lot of feedback from you about what you'd like to change about YouTube," the site posted on its blog on Monday. "And the size of our video player is always top of mind."

So in response, the site has expanded the width of its pages and gone to a cleaner, better quality player that will prevent wide videos from being shrunk down.

On top of that, YouTube will also pair with MGM to launch the "Impact" channel that will feature a host of exciting clips from films like "Rocky," "Legally Blonde," and "The Magnificent Seven" in addition to full length TV shows and films.

"YouTube is committed to helping our community of fans discover new content and reconnect with their all-time favorite TV shows and movies," said Jordan Hoffner, director of content partnerships for YouTube in a press release. "By partnering with MGM, YouTube is strengthening its position as an entertainment destination where Hollywood studios can reach a global audience and where our audience can watch their favorite full-length films, TV shows and clips."

Let me pre-empt this by saying I love Steven Seagal. There, it's out there. I don't care what anyone thinks, but films like "Marked for Death," "Out for Justice" and any other three-word-title film the ponytailed action hero starred in were well worth watching.

So, when I came across the news that Seagal would be starring in his own reality TV show on A&E, you can imagine my excitement.

Seagal has been working on and off as a deputy for New Orleans' Jefferson Parish County Sheriff's Office for nearly two decades. Now, "Steven Seagal: Lawman" will document those efforts as well as his "musical and philanthropic activities in the Big Easy."

"I decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it's important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana," Seagal said.

The show is slated for a late 2009 premiere.

It's been a long, hard few weeks for Fox News.

After that big disappointment in early November -- you know, the election -- comes word that "Hannity & Colmes," the longest-running show on the Fox News Channel, will soon be just "Hannity &."

Alan Colmes, the liberal half of the show will leave at the end of the year, according to the network. Colmes will remain at Fox News to continue his radio show and develop a possible weekend program.

For months we've been hearing about a possible prequel to Will Smith's version of "I Am Legend." Now, the news is that prequel may become a full-blown sequel.

Originally, the film would have dealt with the final days of humanity in New York City as the virus took hold, leaving Smith as the lone survivor. But if Smith is to star, and sources say he will, I can see one major problem with a sequel.

If you've seen the film, you know what it is. If not, I won't ruin it for you.

As if we didn't know this was coming . . .

Summit Entertainment announced Saturday that they are moving forward with the production of "New Moon," the second installment of the "Twilight" series.

Rumor has it that the film's stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, will be paid $12 million apiece for their roles in the sequel.
