As the year begins its traditional run to the finish line, I think it's time to start looking back on the year that was. So for the next four weeks, we are gonna recap the year that was 2008.
Now I know Thanksgiving was last week, but it's never a bad time to be grateful. On that note, here are the top ten things I was thankful for this year:
10. Katy Perry: Admit it, the first time you heard "I Kissed A Girl" on the radio you thought to yourself "What is this?" The second time you heard it, you thought "Who is this?" And the third time, you thought, "I love this." I know that was my reaction. And then upon listening to the rest of "One Of the Boys," I realized this girl has some talent. If you haven't heard this album yet, put it on your bucket list.
6. "Rosie Live" Getting Canceled: Did you get to see Rosie O'Donnell's one and only episode of her variety show? Neither did anyone else. And the reviews? Variety says: "If Rosie O'Donnell and company were consciously determined to strangle the rebirth of variety shows in the crib, they couldn't have done a better job of it than this pre-holiday turkey." The LA Times? "For weeks now NBC has seduced and tantalized with the promise of a cross between Carol Burnett and "Sonny and Cher." And this is what we get?"
5. The "Wanted" Movie Poster: Fanboy is always thankful for Angelina Jolie but I was especially thankful for the one-sheet that the producers of "Wanted" gave us. Angelina + tattoos + guns = Woo-hoo!
4. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall": This was truly my favorite comedy of the year. With a brilliantly funny script, terrific acting and a great story, it was hard to go wrong. P.S. Thank you also for introducing Russell Brand to America. The guy is comedy gold.
3. Mickey Rourke: You're going to want to see "The Wrestler." Rourke gives one of the saddest performances I've seen in a long time. You feel for him but more importantly you connect with him. As a child who grew up on wrestling and as a man who still tunes in from time to time, it's tough to know that the life of the fictional Randy "The Ram" is not so fictional to some of our childhood heroes.

LOST SUCKS!! No one cares about Lost! BATMAN WAS SOOOOO TOTALLY THE BEST THING OF 2008!! IT IS ABOUT $996 MILLION DOLLARS BETTER THAN LOST! And you left off the trailer for Watchmen and the release of the 3G iPhone! You waited in line for it! COME ON!
