Lewis Black Rocks the Florida Theatre

IMG_0379.JPGThere's no doubt about it, Lewis Black is an angry man.

But as angry as he tends to get, there's one thing that seems to make him happy and that's a packed crowd just like the one he had Friday night at the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville.

To a mixed crowd of young and old, rich and poor, the Florida Theatre was the perfect venue for Black's angst ridden comedy. For a first timer to the theater, I must say how impressed I was with its old school design, perfect acoustics and history. (Elvis Presley opened his first headline tour at the theater.)

Currently on his "Let Them Eat Cake" tour, comedian Black killed it in front of a packed crowd.

IMG_0388.JPGDoing a set a bit longer than his usual due to an emergency with his opening act, Black opened up with an impromptu question and answer session thanks in part to a raucous crowd yelling out questions about his haircut ("I look like a head of broccoli") and his outfit to his weight loss, which he blamed on the haircut.

When he finally got the crowd to settle down, Black would go on a rampage from everything to his future in comedy now that Bush is gone ("We didn't even need Obama. We could have had no president. Just Bush flying away on the helicopter and everyone would have been just as excited.") and the economy to his parents sex life and having to follow Vince Gill and Amy Grant ("who is made of pure cream.")

As a long time fan of Mr. Black's, seeing him live trumps any of the comedian's HBO specials, comedy CD's or books. It's an experience that will stick with you long after the laughter has subsided and you realize just how right he actually is.
