Holy Crap, "House."

For those of you who haven't had a chance to check out last night's new "House," stop reading now. For the love of God, stop reading.

If you have...
What in the hell was that??

Stunned.

I had read a few weeks back a rumor that a character would die. As the season progressed I was certain that we might be seeing the end of Taub. Maybe 13's disease gets the best of her.

But no.

kutner-house_398x265.jpgIn a move of groundbreaking proportions, last night saw Kutner felled by his own hand in a tragic gunshot suicide. The incident was effective for a few reasons:

  • The character was seemingly a well-adjusted dude.
  • There was no build-up. No three or four episode arc showing his troubles. He was there. And then he was gone. No signs. No reasons.

  • The reaction from all parties was incredibly touching and fitting. Taub's coldness. House's desire for it all to make sense.
So what brought on this turn of events? Kal Penn, the actor who played Kutner, asked to leave because of a new job opportunity. Movie? TV series? Nope. White House.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Penn confirmed that he was leaving to become "the associate director in the White House office of public liaison."

"They do outreach with the American public and with different organizations," Penn told EW. "They're basically the front door of the White House. They take out all of the red tape that falls between the general public and the White House."

If you wish to "mourn" the loss of Kutner, check out fox.com/kutner where you can watch video tributes, post comments and visit the Facebook memorial page.

Want some more "House?"

Cameron and Chase will be breaking up. That's apparently not the big story. The reasoning? That's where the good stuff lies.
