A new iPhone, even for an iPhile, isn't hot news

iphone_3g.jpgAs many of you already know, the new iPhone 3G comes out today and as in iPhone releases past, many of you who were in line this morning did not get one.

To those of you who did, congratulations. You now own one of the most sophisticated hand-held devices on the planet. To those of you who didn't, never fear, you can still hold one of the most sophisticated devices on the planet and save yourself a couple hundred bucks or so.

How, you ask? By purchasing the old 3G, which is now available for $99 for the 8GB model. But, but, this one is new, you say. Yes, it's new. But does new always mean better?

Let's look at what the new phone really offers:

Improved speed: It's a little faster. And we mean a little faster. And many areas don't even have 3G capability yet so Fanboy is not impressed.

Better battery life: OK, this is a plus.

Video recording: Certain apps that are currently available already allow for video recording.

The biggest upgrade to the system isn't the hardware, it's the new 3.0 operating system -- and guess what 3G owners -- we got that for free Wednesday. MMS? Cut, copy and paste? Landscape keyboard? Spotlight search? Voice recording? It's in the software. So if you want some advice from this Apple-phile, save yourself some money and wait for the next phone.
Speaking of the iPhone, fans of satellite radio got a nice surprise yesterday when SiriusXM finally released their own iPhone application.

The app is a free download but comes with a $2.99 a month subscription fee for current users. Not already a satellite listener? You can get monthly service for $12.95.

michael-sheen.jpg"Frost/Nixon's" Michael Sheen could be going from British interviewer to sinister villain in the next James Bond film, "Bond 23."

Sheen is in talks to bring Bond stalwart Ernst Stavro Blofeld back to the big screen.

"Michael is hot property right now and it is felt that he's the right man to bring Blofeld back to life," an unnamed source told the Guardian. "Michael was a Bond fan in his youth, so this would be a dream role for him."

Speaking of supervillains, some of you will remember the name Levi Johnston. You don't?

OK, he was Bristol Palin's baby daddy. Ohhh, now you remember.

Well it turns out the "famous on Facebook" celebrity is in Los Angeles and has hired a manager/bodyguard to help him field pitches for "acting and reality show gigs."

And just like any supervillain, Johnston needs a nickname. And now thanks to his new manager, Tank Jones, he has one.

When you see Johnston on the street, please refer to him as Ricky Hollywood. Yes, Ricky Hollywood. (Tool will also work just fine.)

AMC has unveiled something pretty special.

If you head on over to the site, you can kick back, relax and watch a slew of classic B-films in genres like comedy, Western, sci-fi, action and of course, horror.

With greats like 1964's "Devil Doll" about an evil ventriloquist to John Carpenter's 1974 flick "Dark Star," AMC has got this B-Movie thing covered.

Head over to amctv.com/b-movies to watch hours of B goodness absolutely free.

Looks like the Farrelly brothers are one Stooge short.

Sean Penn has reportedly dropped out of two high-profile films due to family issues. The first is Universal's crime thriller, "Cartel."

Sadly, the second was the Farrelly brothers' much anticipated "Three Stooges" film which starred Penn as Larry. The search is on for an actor to stand up to Jim Carrey's Curly and Benicio Del Toro's Moe.

This week's protest:

Universal has OK'd a remake of "Bride of Frankenstein." A petition against any further action will be forthcoming.
