'Hangover' a treasure of a comedy

FIlm Review The Hangover.JPGThere's nothing better than a good comedy and beginning this weekend you'll have the chance to see a great one.

Some people know director/producer Todd Phillips as the driving force behind the Will Ferrell/Vince Vaughn vehicle, "Old School." I can guarantee you that after people see "The Hangover," he'll be known a lot more.

"The Hangover" is a new take on the typical road trip comedy. Four friends set off to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. Craziness ensues. Our cast is left to deal with the aftermath. The aftermath in this case however involves a stolen police car, a tiger, a chicken, Mike Tyson and a prostitute. Oh, and one of the gang has gone missing.
It's hard to nail down exactly what was so perfect about this film. There are comedic risks it takes which, to this writer's knowledge, have seldom if never been used in a marketed film.

Perhaps "The Hangover's" strongest asset is its cast. Bradley Cooper ("Wedding Crashers") and Ed Helms ("The Office") are terrific. Justin Bartha ("National Treasure") plays the bachelor and the AWOL friend without flaw.

But the real treasure of this film is comedian Zach Galifinakis. As Bartha's soon to be brother-in-law, Galifinakis makes a wonderful imbecile. He steals scene after scene and not just because he's got some of the film's funniest lines. His gestures, facial expressions and look make him a character you just cannot take your eyes off.

And if you go (and you should...only other thing opening this weekend is "Land of the Lost" and who are we kidding?) make sure to stay for the photo album as the credits roll. It's well worth the price of admission.

Not that followers of the show didn't already know this, but Bravo confirmed this week that the next season of "Top Chef" will take place in Las Vegas.

39307.jpgThe new season will premiere in the fall with one slight change. Returning alongside host Padma Lakshmi are head judge Tom Colicchio and food editor Gail Simmons. You'll remember that British author Toby Young joined the show as a replacement for Simmons last year when she left to get married. This year, Young joins the cast full time as they go with a four judge panel.

And while "Top Chef: Las Vegas" won't be around for a few more months, junkies can check out "Top Chef Masters" which premieres at 10 p.m. Wednesday on Bravo. The series will feature many of the past chef judges and other stars of the culinary world as they compete for $100,000 for their favorite charities.

Just a little over a month until "Entourage" returns to HBO on July 12 and we've got a little info for all of you desperate for the boys to come back.

Seems "High School Musical's" Zac Efron will be playing himself in an episode for this sixth season. Aaron Sorkin will also appear among the slew of cameos destined to be ahead.

Dear Hollywood,

Stop remaking fairly-recent films. Look, you want to remake "Alien" and "Predator," fine. (Which you are doing by the way.) I can't stop you. But "Scream" now? "Scream" came out in 1996. That was only 13 years ago, guys. Come on!

But it looks like Kevin Williamson, the writer/director of the original films is working on a new trilogy that will reboot the series. Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are already in talks to return. Of course they are. What else do they have to do?

With Father's Day right around the corner, Entertainment Weekly has put together a list of "12 Movies That Will Make Grown Men Cry."

On the list are films like "Shawshank Redemption," "Good Will Hunting" and "Saving Private Ryan."

For me, the two big ones are "Field of Dreams" and "Rudy." They get me every time, without fail.

How about you guys out there? Which films make you turn on the waterworks?
