Solar iPhone charger

Whether you're out on the boat all day or you're traveling through death valley on a camel, you still need to check your email, your stocks and update your Facebook, right? If you're out in the sun all day, you're batteries are drained by day's end. But now you can leave your iPhone in the sun all day and be fully juiced up.

The iPhone 3G and 3Gs don't have great battery life, but what electronic gadget does? The 3Gs is better than the plain old G, but no matter where we go, we're always looking for a power source. When we walk through the airport, iPhoners searching for empty outlets like hungry street urchins look for half smoked grits on the sidewalk. Ok, so that analogy was insensitive, but you get the idea. iPhone's need juice. (can you start a sentence with a lowercase i?)

A company called Novothink has solved our problems with the Surge. It's the first ever Apple approved solar iPhone and iPod charger.

With only 2 hours of free sun, the Surge provides about 30 minutes of gum flapping time on a 3G network or 60 minutes of talk time on a 2G network.

Novothink-5.jpgWhile it might take you 6 hours or so to get a full charge, it could still help you in a bind. You never know when you might have to Tweet, right?

General Specs:
  • Optimized power management system provides continuous charge to iPhone 3G's or 3G S's internal battery
  • Durable, lightweight hard-shell construction with soft-touch grip side sections
  • Integrated 4 LED battery status indicator
  • Built-in Apple certified 30 pin connector
  • Compatibility: iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S
No word as to when this thing will actually be available for purchase, but it's rumored to be around $70 clams.

It comes in 8 different color options too.
