2008 Slammy Awards Predictions

Looking at this Monday's three-hour Raw, and the latest on the Hogans.
This Monday's three-hour Raw will focus on the 2008 Slammy Awards. Here are my picks for who should win (the categories with WWE's pre-announced nominees gave better direction as to who to pick):

Superstar of the Year Nominees (Edge, Batista, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, Triple H and John Cena): I will say Batista should win. He should beat out the other nominees because he's stayed healthy and out of trouble. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Cena or Hardy won.

Match of the Year Nominees (2008 Royal Rumble Match, Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24, Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 24, Undertaker vs. Edge Hell in a Cell Match at SummerSlam): I'm happy to say I saw two of these four matches live in Orlando. For sentimental and historic value, Flair-Michaels has to win this category.

OMG Moment of the Year Nominees (CM Punk cashes in Money In The Bank and becomes World Heavyweight Champion on Raw June 30, Undertaker sends Edge to Hell in SummerSlam, Floyd Mayweather punches Big Show and breaks his nose in No Way Out, John Cena surprise return at the Royal Rumble): For shock value, which is what the OMG category should be, you have to go with Cena's Rumble return. How this was kept a secret in this day and age of the Internet still impresses me.

Diva of the Year Nominees (Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly): I'm thinking Beth Phoenix will win this one, as she was champion and she played a strong comedic role with Santino Marella. That's two positives for her. Mickie James should finish a close second.

"DAMN!" Moment of the Year: Something to do with Ron Simmons, obviously.

Tag Team of the Year (The Miz and John Morrison, Priceless team of Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, Cryme Tyme, Carlito and Primo): If The Miz and John Morrison don't win this category, something is wrong with WWE.

Best Musical Performance: Why do I have a bad feeling Jillian will be involved in this category?

Best Finishing Move Nominees (Randy Orton's RKO, Undertaker's Hell's Gate, Big Show's KO Punch, Evan Bourne's Shooting Star Press): Hard to say where WWE will go with this one. I was going to say the Batista Bomb before the nominees were announced. Now that we have the candidates, I think Bourne will win this category.

Extreme Moment of the Year: Has to be an ECW moment, right? Well, maybe if it was the old ECW. I'll select a Jeff Hardy moment here.

Couple of the Year (Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix, Edge & Vickie Guerrero, William Regal & Layla, Finlay & Hornswoggle): As annoying as they were, Edge and Vickie carried Smackdown.

Breakout Star of the Year: Kofi Kingston and MVP should get strong consideration, but I'm thinking CM Punk qualifies here if WWE goes with a more established veteran, and Evan Bourne if WWE goes with a future superstar.

Announcer of the Year: Good 'ol JR, for going to Smackdown and for his usual expertise.

Best WWE.com Exclusive: Miz and Morrison's gig.

Best Impersonation: Haas Hogan, brutha!

WWE ARMAGEDDON -- DEC. 21 PREDICTIONS

World Heavyweight Champion John Cena defends against Chris Jericho: Cena is WWE's cash cow. He'll hold the strap going into and leaving WrestleMania XXV.

WWE Champion Edge defends against Triple H and Jeff Hardy: Edge didn't win the title to give it right back. He needs to be rebuilt back up, and he'll defend it at WrestleMania XXV.

Batista vs. Randy Orton: Orton has the numbers game, so I'm giving him the edge.

LATEST ON THE HOGANS

Hulk Hogan "does not get the eight-sided ring" in TNA Wrestling. REACT: How long have I said the exact same thing?

Hulk, on WWE's beef with Celebrity Championship Wrestling, said "what you throw out there will come back to you." REACT: It does seem rather silly WWE has verbally gone after Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake and Jimmy Hart. I'd love to see a Season 2 of CCW, but nothing has been announced yet.

According to prowrestling.net, Hulk declines WWE's invitation to be in the Troops show in Iraq. REACT: I can understand Hulk declining the invitation, as his divorce is too messy.

About HHH, Hulk said, "That's probably the biggest expose I've ever seen keeping Triple H as champion." REACT: Hogan makes a point. But HHH is still one of the biggest names in WWE, especially seeing how lots of other big names have been hurt. Plus, HHH is on Smackdown now.

LATEST HEADLINES AND MY REACTS

Hurricane Helms to returns. REACT: Will WWE give him an angle return based on his pop-up comments?

Lillian Garcia gets bucket of ice water on head after falling asleep on WWE's plane ride to Europe. REACT: I'm sure lots more interesting things happened on this flight.

Rumored HHH and Stephanie story line at WrestleMania XXV. REACT: I can't see WWE saddling HHH with this at its marquee event. Whatever the rumored story line may be.

WWE officials pitching idea for a Kurt Angle return three years from now. REACT: Angle will be 41 and more physically worn down than he is now. If he indeed can work a lighter schedule, it might be a good thing.

Vince McMahon pushing for DH Smith's return to the main roster, on Smackdown. REACT: He was made an example of during the recent steroids era, and he's probably ready for the show.

Universal wants to remake "They Live." REACT: Piper's fight scene is one of the best fight scenes ever in a movie. Who will step up and reshoot that?
