WWE completed its list of nominees, so here's an updated list of JAWBreaker's predictons.
This Monday's three-hour Raw will focus on the 2008 Slammy Awards. Here are my picks for who should win:
Superstar of the Year Nominees (Edge, Batista, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, Triple H and John Cena): I will say Batista should win. He should beat out the other nominees because he's stayed healthy and out of trouble. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Cena or Hardy won.
Match of the Year Nominees (2008 Royal Rumble Match, Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24, Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 24, Undertaker vs. Edge Hell in a Cell Match at SummerSlam): I'm happy to say I saw two of these four matches live in Orlando. For sentimental and historic value, Flair-Michaels has to win this category.
Diva of the Year Nominees (Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly): I'm thinking Beth Phoenix will win this one, as she was champion and she played a strong comedic role with Santino Marella. That's two positives for her. Mickie James should finish a close second.
OMG Moment of the Year Nominees (CM Punk cashes in Money In The Bank and becomes World Heavyweight Champion on Raw June 30, Undertaker sends Edge to Hell in SummerSlam, Floyd Mayweather punches Big Show and breaks his nose in No Way Out, John Cena surprise return at the Royal Rumble): For shock value, which is what the OMG category should be, you have to go with Cena's Rumble return. How this was kept a secret in this day and age of the Internet still impresses me.
"DAMN!" Moment of the Year Nominees (Khali Kiss Cam, Smackdown, Nov. 7; Jim Ross in a sailor suit, Smackdown, Oct. 31; CM Punk disguised in a Mariachi Band, lays out Chavo Guerrero, ECW, Jan. 29; Santino Marella attempts Melina's entrance, Raw, Dec. 1): I thought this would have something to do with Ron Simmons. Oh well. The Khali Kiss Cam happens all the time, and I think the nominee that best fits here that had the biggest impact would be CM Punk disguised in a Mariachi Band.
Tag Team of the Year Nominees (The Miz and John Morrison, Priceless team of Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, Cryme Tyme, Carlito and Primo): If The Miz and John Morrison don't win this category, something is wrong with WWE.
Best Finishing Maneuver Nominees (Randy Orton's RKO, Undertaker's Hell's Gate, Big Show's KO Punch, Evan Bourne's Shooting Star Press): Hard to say where WWE will go with this one. I was going to say the Batista Bomb before the nominees were announced. Now that we have the candidates, I think Bourne will win this category.
Extreme Moment of the Year Nominees (Jeff Hardy's Swanton Bomb on Randy Orton from the Raw set on Jan. 14; Undertaker falls off ladder through table as Edge wins TLC Match at One Night Stand; JBL throws John Cena off stage into car windshield at The Great American Bash; Chris Jericho smashes Shawn Michaels' head through Jeri-Tron on June 9 Raw): Hardy's Swanton stands out here, as I don't recall seeing the two PPV moments.
Couple of the Year Nominees (Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix, Edge & Vickie Guerrero, William Regal & Layla, Finlay & Hornswoggle): As annoying as they were, Edge and Vickie carried Smackdown.
Best WWE.com Exclusive (Cryme Tyme's "Word Up!"; The Miz and John Morrison's "The Dirt Sheet," "Santino's Casa," and "Outthink the Fink"): I think Miz and Morrison had the most publicity, and they worked extra hard to make their exclusive the best out of this group.
Breakout Star of the Year Nominees (Kofi Kingston, Vladimir Kozlov, Evan Bourne, Ted DiBiase): Kofi Kingston or Evan Bourne have the edge here, as DiBiase didn't wrestle much and Kozlov's push died. I'll go with Bourne, as WWE seems to like him more. He also is more exciting to watch perform.
Best Musical Performance Nominees (R-Truth's entrance on the Sept. 15 Smackdown; Santino rapping to Akon on the Nov. 17 Raw; Edge signing "Heaven" to Vickie on the Feb. 15 Smackdown; The Miz and John Morrison Rap on the Aug. 29 "The Dirt Sheet"): I still think Jillian will be involved here. But since I have to pick, I'll go with R-Truth. I like his music.
Announcer of the Year Nominees (Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole; Jim Ross and Tazz; Matt Striker and Todd Grisham): Good 'ol JR (and Michael Cole), for going to Smackdown and for both of their usual expertise.
Best Impersonation Nominees (Charlie Haas as "Haas" Hogan on the Oct. 13 Raw; Haas at "CHL" on the Sept. 8 Raw; Haas as "The Glamahaas on the Oct. 27 Raw; Haas as Mr. Perfect on the Sept. 22 Raw): Funny how all of these were within two months time. I guess Haas will win this category, huh? I'll go with his Hogan one, mainly for name value.
