In what could be a career-threatening injury that happened during a match against Jeff Hardy at a Smackdown house show in San Diego, Calif., Edge reportedly snapped or ruptured an Achilles tendon
It's always a sad thing when a wrestler suffers an injury, and even more depressing when it's a major injury. After he was hurt, Edge -- in what shows the seriousness and realness of this all -- told the crowd he was "sorry."
Edge is without a doubt one of the best in the business when it comes to wrestlers who successfully combine wrestling and speaking. His wrestling is exciting to watch and flawless -- when have you heard of anyone complaining about being in an angle with him?
Edge has also been down this road before. He was one of the first wrestlers to have major neck problems and major neck surgery, and he started a trend of big names coming back from major neck issues.
There's no doubt Edge can overcome this latest setback, which usually takes at least eight months (and maybe up to one year) in recovery time, and get back to where he was. He's only 35 years old, which isn't too old in wrestling. I wouldn't expect to see Edge in a major match at WresteMania, but I do think he'll be in a major angle.
I had read reports as recent as a few months ago that Edge was going to take some time off to heal up some bumps and bruises. It's a shame that he didn't take that time off, but this was simply a freak accident.
With no live WWE programming next week (next week's shows have already been taped), it will be strange but understandable seeing Edge wrestling and in angles on television.
It'll be interesting to see what WWE does with the tag-team titles. I think WWE might end up having CM Punk turn heel 100 percent and somehow take Edge's place and join Chris Jericho as tag-team champions. At the least, with one of the top heels in Edge being out, expect Punk to become a full heel.
Edge, although a heel most of his career, has always entertained me. While he's not one of my all-time favorites, I've always admired and appreciated his wrestling skills.
I send out my best to Edge in his recovery.

Chris Jericho said Ricky Steamboat, 55, is better than 80 percent of the current WWE roster. REACT: 80 percent seems a little high. That's 4 out of every 5. I would say more like 70 percent (7 out of every 10), max. I also wonder what the rest of the WWE roster would think about Jericho's comment.
Jeff Hardy said Shawn Michaels "is the one who inspires me." REACT: A Hardy-Michaels feud and match would be refreshing.
Steve McNair. REACT: On a non-wrestling note, RIP Steve McNair. I always admired his scrambling skills, the way he took hits and how he racked up rushing numbers at the quarterback position. He'll be missed.
