Triple H vs. John Cena

The main event delivered, and the DiBiases and Gail Kim had great nights.
It was difficult to avoid reading the Raw spoilers the past week. But I managed to do so. Let's review.

The angles:
1. Ted DiBiase Sr. REACT: The "Million Dollar Man" did an awesome job as this week's special host. I wonder how many current fans know who he is? It was great having DiBiase Sr. play a face character, seeing how he was mostly a heel character in his day. It was funny hearing DiBiase Sr. say he despises Dusty Rhodes, and he even got a Hall of Fame comment dig in there. I almost can smell a DiBiase Sr. vs. Dusty Rhodes gimmick match, and I like that idea.
2. The Million Dollar Belt. REACT: On a somewhat-related DiBiase note, I agree 100 percent with the sign that said to bring this belt back.
3. Edge. REACT: It was simply weird seeing him kick the show off, knowing he's out at least eight months.
4. Carlito turns on Primo. REACT: I'm not a fan of Carlito turning, or at least teasing turning, heel. I was hoping WWE would keep Carlito and Primo together. Maybe WWE will have them reconcile, like last week, and have them be the on-again, off-again tag-team partners every week. It might work and be funny.
5. Ted DiBiase Jr. REACT: I'm surprised he said his father was better than Randy Orton's dad, Cowboy Bob Orton (although I do agree with that statement). I was also stunned when he slapped his dad across the face, although there will likely be a reconciliation when DiBiase Jr. goes face.
6. MVP vs. Jack Swagger. REACT: Can you say money feud? I'm a little surprised WWE finally really brought up MVP's real-life past, but it was done properly. Swagger continues to be a great heel. Those that are just now realizing this fact missed some great ECW segments (DVR it for Shamus now!). I do wonder, however, when Swagger will actually wrestle on Raw.
7. Big Show. REACT: I didn't like at all how Big Show squashed both Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne. That's poor booking, especially since we all know Big Show rarely gets that "monster push.''

The matches:
1. United Tag Team Champions Edge/Chris Jericho beat Carlito/Primo. REACT: Primo really gave this decent but not spectacular match a boost. He's improved tremendously.
2. Gail Kim/Mickie James beat Divas Champion Maryse/Alicia Fox. REACT: Kim really got to shine in this match, and it's about damn time. Kim getting the pin on Maryse is great for her and great for the women's division, although it does really force Maryse to rack up some wins before the pay-per-view.
3. Mark Henry beats Cody Rhodes by countout. REACT: It was smart to continue to push Henry's power game, but it was stupid to have Rhodes counted out. It sets him back even further. The win by Henry really forces WWE to continue to push him, and based on past trends, I don't see that happening.
4. Randy Orton beats Ted DiBiase Jr. REACT: It's about time DiBiase got a chance to show his skills. This was a good match. The fighting, yet frustrated attitude, will serve him well as he makes the complete transition from heel to face. It will be slow though, which is fine.
5. Evan Bourne beats Kofi Kingston. REACT: Kofi got in most of the offense in a match that had an out-of-nowhere pin by Bourne. This match, although I marked out for it on paper, was sadly too short.
6. Triple H vs. John Cena is a double disqualification. REACT: The crowd really made this already-great match, with obvious big-name feel and action, a PPV-type match. The shoulder blocks really picked things up, and the sleepers and numerous small package pin attempts were nice touches. I didn't care for the run-in, but when you think about, was there really any other option?

Grade: B. The only thing holding this down a grade (from an A) was Cody Rhodes' match and the short Bourne-Kingston match.

OTHER SHOWS

From late last week:

Superstars: The Brian Kendrick just can't win a match, although Santino Marella needed a win after the "loss" of Santina. I'm surprised Tyler Reks lost to Zack Ryder, who has one catchy tune. CM Punk's "hurting eyes" was a good match story line against Edge.

Smackdown: It'll be interesting to see how the loss of Edge will play into the CM Punk-Jeff Hardy feud, if at all. Kane-The Great Khali scares me. I hope Rey Mysterio stays in this feud. The women's division is interesting with Melina, Maria and Michelle McCool. I'm not sure I like Dolph Ziggler beating R-Truth.

LATEST HEADLINES AND MY REACTS

Fun contest at http://www.diva-dirt.com/50sexiestdivas2009/ REACT: Here were my votes: Group A (Tiffany), Group B (Torrie Wilson edges out Stacy Keilber and then Eve), Group C (Lita), Group D (Velvet Sky) and Group E (Kelly Kelly). Final voting for the overall winner is up. And since WWE.com didn't do it, vote for who I voted for (Torrie). For the record, I expect someone more "recent" like Kelly Kelly to win -- and that's not a bad thing.

WWE's Senior Vice President of Distribution and Affliate Marketing, Peter Clifford, said WWE wouldn't rule out dropping some monthly PPVs. REACT: I think every other month -- that would be six per year -- would not be a bad thing. It would give wrestlers an extra weekend off every two months.

The Sun reports Matt Hardy had abdominal surgery and will miss 8-10 weeks. REACT: Hardy needs the time off to get back to his normal self, something he hasn't been in months.

MyFOX Memphis reports Jerry Lawler is considering a run for Mayor in Memphis, Tenn. REACT: I can't see Lawler winning, but he should do better than his 12 percent vote one decade ago.

Some WWE wrestlers reportedly unhappy because a top WWE star is rumored to have failed a drug test for steroids and wasn't suspended. REACT: There are only a handful of wrestlers WWE would (and I'm not saying they would) do something like this for. Let's just hope this is a false report.

Chris Jericho and The Miz having a Twitter feud. REACT: Jericho seems snappier on the microphone, hence the reason he's reportedly winning this insult competition.
Stacy Keibler in bizarre video at http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/8fffb44ad0/champagne-lilacs-with-mike-o-connell REACT: I'm not sure what to make of it. Although the song is catchy, the video is disturbing -- other than watching Stacy in it.

MVP reportedly hurts knee. REACT: No word on how seriousness, if at all, so we'll keep tabs on this.

Marty Jannetty thinks the Gagnes used to stiff wrestlers on payoffs. REACT: A wrestling owner keeping money from their wrestler? Stop the press!
