Clamming Class SetThe
Canaveral National Seashore is hosting another one-hour "Clamming 101" interpretive program at 10 a.m. on March 13 in the Apollo District. Participants do not need saltwater licenses to participate. Wear covered shoes and meet at parking lot 1. For more information, call 386-428-3384.
The northern access for Canaveral is located off State Road A1A at the southern-most end of New Smyrna Beach. Entering the park requires a $3 daily use fee. Children under 16 are free.
Where to Harvest ShellfishThe only approved and conditionally approved areas to harvest shellfish in this area are located away from major development in south Volusia, in areas such as south Edgewater, Oak Hill and the
Canaveral National Seashore. To verify whether an area is safe and legal to harvest shellfish, call the
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service Division of Aquaculture field office in Palm Bay at 321-984-4890 to check with an environmental specialist.
The status of shellfish areas can change from open to closed, depending on environmental conditions, such as red tide, hurricanes or runoff. Status updates and maps also
