Extended by Popular Demand: Take Out and From Gutter to Gallery exhibitions
at the Brevard Art Museum
MELBOURNE, FL - In response to the public's appreciation for the whimsical variety of Take Out and the graphic vibrancy of graffiti art in From Gutter to Gallery, the Brevard Art Museum has extended the run of both exhibitions through August 11, 2009.
Meet graffiti artist Cynic on Thursday, July 23 at 2:30 p.m. for a gallery walk and book signing. Cynic and other writers are featured in Miami Graffiti by James and Karla Murray, the first book documenting the graffiti scene in Miami.
Each Thursday through July, from 4 to 5 p.m., the Museum offers a free hands-on art activity for kids featuring a take out box, the basis of the exhibition currently on display. No registration required. Recommended for ages 3 and up.
"I've come to see Take Out four times and I still find surprises each time," remarked Rose Wiley, a Guild volunteer at the Museum.
Using a restaurant take out container as a jumping off point, artists were invited to create artwork with few limitations. This national exhibition allowed artists of all levels to participate. The one common denominator was the take out container. The range of responses demonstrates that though everyone started from the same beginning, each journey was unique.

OCEAN CENTER OFFERING 'HOT DEAL' DISCOUNTS FOR NEW AUGUST THROUGH NOVEMBER BOOKINGS
The already affordable rental rates at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach just got better with the launch of a "Hot Dates" program at the Volusia County facility.
The Hot Dates program offers a 10-percent discount on facility rental for first-time clients - regardless of the amount of space rented - for bookings in August, September, October or November in 2009 and beyond. Sales staff also is negotiating additional incentives to rent the space during what's typically the facility's slower season.
"These windows of opportunity hopefully will convince more planners and businesses to take a look the Ocean Center and its surprisingly affordable rates," said Lori Hunter, Ocean Center sales director.
"These deals are even sweeter when you consider the Ocean Center is an all-new, high-tech facility; is next door to the World's Most Famous Beach; is surrounded by quality hotel rooms; and is immersed in some of the nicest weather anywhere. Booking the Ocean Center during the Hot Deals program or any time of year is a winning scenario for planners, exhibitors and visitors."
Ideal bookings for the Hot Dates program include short-term trainings and seminars, expos and concerts. Even conventions that book years in advance can participate in the Hot Dates program for future years. However, all Hot Dates-related contracts must be signed by Dec. 31, 2009.
The Hot Dates program includes all rentable space in the facility, including the new 95,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 9,600-seat arena, 11,715-square-foot ball room and all 36 meeting rooms.
To learn more about booking the Ocean Center during its Hot Dates program or any time during the year, please call Lori Hunter at (386) 254-4500 or e-mail lhunter@oceancenter.com.
