The StarLite Princess - one of the few authentic paddlewheelers in the United States - is moving to Daytona Beach in June 2009.  This unique passenger vessel will be moving from its current port on the Corey Causeway in the St. Pete Beach area of Florida's West Coast in order to fulfill the void of cruising options in Daytona Beach.  Cruises will begin on June 12th and depart from behind Caribbean Jack's Restaurant at 721 Ballough Road.

"We are very happy and excited to be expanding to Daytona, " said Phil Henderson, Jr., president of StarLite Cruises.  "We have over 20 years of experience in the passenger vessel industry and operate 5 different vessels.  We believe that our quality, service and variety will benefit both the local Daytona community and our attraction.  We pioneered the concept of fine dining while cruising on smooth and scenic inland waters.  Our service is unlike any other cruise to have operated in the Daytona Beach area."

A variety of excursions that feature something for everyone will be offered.  These include starlite.jpg Luncheon/Sightseeing and Dinner Dance cruises with trips scheduled 6 days of the week.
Prices range from $14.95 for a sightseeing cruise with an optional lunch to $22.90 for an evening dinner dance cruise with entrees priced from 13.95 to 32.95.  With StarLite Dining
Cruises, you control how much you spend just as you would in a landside restaurant. Lunch and dinner entrees are all prepared fresh to order right on board under the direction of StarLite's Executive Chef.  Group rates are also available.

According to Henderson, an authentic paddlewheeler may be viewed as a tourist attraction, however he notes that more than 60% of the business on the StarLite Princess is generated through the local market.  Birthday and anniversary packages are popular among individuals, while many companies and associations hold parties, banquets and meetings on board.

The vessel is also very popular with brides because of the ability to have both ceremony and reception in one unique location.  In addition, each captain is a notary public and able to perform marriage ceremonies.  In 2008, over 150 couples included the StarLite Princess in their wedding arrangements.

"With our close proximity to beach hotels, we're anticipating an increase in the tourism market," said Henderson, "And  whenever possible, it's going to be best for people to call ahead and make reservations-- we're still going to welcome large parties and private charters, so sometimes the boat may not be available to individuals."

Reservations and more information for any of the cruises offered by the StarLite Princess may be obtained by calling (386) 562-5550.

Cinematique of Daytona Announces New Films, New Starting Day, New Saturday Matinees, New Classic Cinema

DAYTONA BEACH - Cinematique of Daytona, the area's only fine-arts cinema society, is adding Saturday matinees to its schedule of films that will begin June 20.

``Our goal is to give our patrons the opportunity to see great films they couldn't otherwise see anywhere in the area, along with more options for seeing them,'' said Stephanie Mason-Teague, president of the 20-year-old nonprofit organization.

Weekly showings will now open on Fridays, a schedule change that will   coincide with movies in mainstream theaters.  The schedule will include Friday evening shows, Saturday matinees, Wednesday matinees and Thursday evening shows, all at The Book Store Café, 410 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, (386) 615-8320.  Groups of 10 or more are given a group discount and can reserve seating.

Cinematique also announces the addition of classic films to their schedule.

``We've had many requests to show classic films.  Films most people never had the chance to see in a theater, if at all, so we're experimenting this flight with adding `Love Affair' from 1939 and `Charade' from 1963", Mason-Teague said.

Noted Teri Pruden, who heads the Film Selection Committee, ``Our task was doubly difficult this time, as we wanted a typically broad selection of films that won't already be widely distributed on DVD and pay-per-view, while working within the confines of an extremely tight budget. I think we've achieved excellent diversity and quality here.''

Here's the list and schedule for Cinematique:

June 20 - July 2: ``Encounters at the End of the World'' (USA; NR) Werner Herzog directed, narrates and even was his own cinematographer in this visually stunning and powerful documentary picture of man - and beast - against nature in Antarctica.

July 3 - July 16: ``Tulpan'' (China; NR; subtitled) This Cannes award-winning dramatic debut of noted filmmaker Sergey Dvortsevoy examines the plight of a shepherd whose career path is blunted by the lack of a wife. And Tulpan, the only prospect, complains his ears are too big.

JULY 17 - July 30: ``Love Affair'' (1939; USA; NR) Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer star in director Leo McCarey's romantic tale. He even remade this masterpiece as ``An Affair To Remember.''  A wealthy playboy falls for a beautiful woman on a cruise. They agree to meet again in six months to see if their love is meant to be.

July 31 - Aug. 13: ``In Search of a Midnight Kiss'' (USA; NR) A Wo Scoot McNairy, Sara Simmonds. A Woody Allen-like protagonist, pushed to date by his roommate, pairs with an oddball woman he finds at an online dating site in this black-and-white comedy.

AUG. 14-AUG. 27: ``In Love We Trust'' (China; NR; subtitled) A divorced couple considers reuniting to have another baby in order to save their dying daughter, but the complications are immense in this drama.

Aug. 28 - Sept. 10:  "Charade" (1963 USA, NR) Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant.  Director:  Stanley Donen spins the sage of a wealthy widow suddenly penniless in Paris, where a handsome gentleman with a hidden agenda dashes to her aid.  And the chase for much missing money is on.

Several Cinematique films will be screened in DeLand at the newly restored Athens Theatre, 12 N. Florida Ave.  For schedule information and to purchase tickets on-line:  www.athenstheatre.org, or by phone:  (386) 734-1500.

Schedules and previews of all the films are available on the Internet at cinematique.org, athenstheatre.org, movietickets.com and fandango.com or from the Cinematique Moviephone: 386-252-3778. Reviews of the films are posted at Cinematique's Web site several days prior to their opening.

Yet another activity locally is Cinematique Under the Stars, the series of free outdoor films shown on the third Saturday of the month April through September, near City Island Library Center in Daytona Beach. All films are free and open to the public.  Patrons should bring a chair or blanket to sit on.  Concession items are available for purchase.  The series of films is designed as a kick off and publicity tour for the Daytona Beach Film Festival.

June 20:  "The Knife" sponsored by the Daytona Beach Youth Collective

July 18:  "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"

August 22:  "The Princess Bride"

September 19:  "Singing in the Rain"

Rain dates and other details are on Cinematique's Web site.

The Daytona Beach Film Festival, now in its seventh year, will be held Oct. 9-11 on two screens at the Bookstore cafe. The three-day event will include a score of films, a student film competition, a program of short films, special guests and much more. Advanced tickets will go on sale in September, sponsorship opportunities are now available.  Information can be found on-line at www.dbff.org

Several Cinematique Membership levels are available, beginning at $30 a year.  Membership entitles the holder to a variety of discounts, and is the fiscal basis for the organization's continued operation. Become a member or volunteer on-line or at The Bookstore Café.

theflyboysposter.jpgJason (Jesse James) and Kyle (Reiley McClendon), recent friends from different sides of the tracks, become embroiled in the adventure of their lives when they discover a mysterious airplane at the local small-town airport. The boys sneak aboard the plane for a look, but are forced to hide in the luggage compartment when two strange men show up.  Soon Jason and Kyle unexpectedly find themselves airborne over the open Arizona desert.  After hours in the air, the boys unwittingly uncover a bomb in the luggage compartment.  When they burst into the cabin to report their discovery, they find that everyone on board has bailed out.  The boys must take the controls and land the plane themselves.  But their troubles are only beginning as Jason and Kyle realize that they've foiled a heist to steal millions of dollars from the mob in this high-action, coming-of-age film.

Rocco Devilliers presented the film he directed and co-wrote to last year's Daytona Beach Film Festival to an enthusiastic audience response. This adventure of two boys with a love for flying and an attraction for trouble embodies some amazing aerial stunt work to tell a heartwarming story.
