FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LITTLE THEATRE OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH

DATE:      JULY 15, 2009

SUBJECT:  AUDITIONS FOR SQUABBLES

CONTACT:  BILL COOK

                    386-690-0684 BillCook@NsbPlayers.org

Auditions for roles in our opening show for the 2009-10 season are scheduled for this coming week-end - Sunday, July 19 and Monday, July 20, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the Little Theatre in the rehearsal hall. Details follow:

--Season Opener--
'Squabbles'
Comedy by Marshall Karp
Performances: Sept. 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20 (7 performances)
Auditions: July 19-20, 7 p.m.
Director:
Shelly Wawrzonek

Jerry Sloan is a successful writer of advertising jingles married to an equally successful lawyer. Living with the happy couple is the not so happy Abe Dreyfus, Jerry's curmudgeon of a father-in-law. The situation is exacerbated when Jerry's mother (Mildred) loses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay. Since the wedding, Abe and Mildred can't stand each other. This play is one hilarious confrontation after another until the heart warming finale.

Characters: 4 men, 3 women (ages 30's - 70's)

Jerry Sloan: A professional jingle writer (sings, plays the piano)
Alice Sloan: Jerry's pregnant wife and a successful attorney
Abe Dreyfus: Alice's funny and stubborn father, retired New York cab driver, lives with Alice and Jerry
Hector Lopez: Puerto Rican handyman who spends most of his time in the W.C.
Mildred Sloan: Jerry's mother
Sol Wasserman: retired pharmacist and Abe's friend
Mrs. Fisher: governess/nanny

Helpful hints from the director when auditioning for roles in Squabbles: Male actors may want to audition with Jewish and/or Spanish dialects as characterizations in this play would be enhanced with these particular accents.

Auditions are open to the public, and stage experience is not necessary. Readings will be from the script and a copy is available at the reference desk at the New Smyrna Beach library. For add'l information contact the LT office at 386-423-1246 or e-mail info@NsbPlayers.org.

Atlantic Center's 134th residency is a special Project Residency on Performance with Mark Applebaum whose solo, chamber, choral, orchestral, operatic, and electroacoustic work has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia; Carole Kim, an interdisciplinary artist working on live video performance and performance-based video installation to create multi-sensory immersive environments; and Heather Woodbury, an award-winning performer and writer known for her ground-breaking "performance novels"- expansive, multi-character works which combine the immediacy of performance art with a novel's length and scope; and 24 Associate Artists.

The essence of Atlantic Center's Artists-in-Residence program is to provide talented artists the opportunity to work and collaborate with contemporary masters. Selected through a competitive application process by the master artists with whom they wish to work, these associate artists come from around the world, and are university professors, post-graduate students, professionals, or full-time writers, dancers, painters or composers.

During their stay, the artists spend a portion of the day working with the master artist and their group in meetings, workshops, casual conversations and other activities. They are free to spend the remainder of their time pursuing their own projects. The residencies culminate with a public presentation of works-in-progress accomplished during the residency.

Extended by Popular Demand: Take Out and From Gutter to Gallery exhibitions

 at the Brevard Art Museum

MELBOURNE, FL - In response to the public's appreciation for the whimsical variety of Take Out and the graphic vibrancy of graffiti art in From Gutter to Gallery, the Brevard Art Museum has extended the run of both exhibitions through August 11, 2009.

Meet graffiti artist Cynic on Thursday, July 23 at 2:30 p.m. for a gallery walk and book signing. Cynic and other writers are featured in Miami Graffiti by James and Karla Murray, the first book documenting the graffiti scene in Miami.

Each Thursday through July, from 4 to 5 p.m., the Museum offers a free hands-on art activity for kids featuring a take out box, the basis of the exhibition currently on display. No registration required. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

"I've come to see Take Out four times and I still find surprises each time," remarked Rose Wiley, a Guild volunteer at the Museum.

Using a restaurant take out container as a jumping off point, artists were invited to create artwork with few limitations. This national exhibition allowed artists of all levels to participate. The one common denominator was the take out container. The range of responses demonstrates that though everyone started from the same beginning, each journey was unique.

The Brevard Art Museum is a non-profit organization supported in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs; the Florida Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts; Brevard County through the Brevard Cultural Alliance; the Brevard County Tourist Development Council;  and by members of the Brevard Art Museum.

Synopsis:  Acclaimed documentarian Sergey Dvortsevoy's debut narrative feature, TULPAN, is a work of extraordinary filmmaking bravado, an exhilaratingly alive and sweet-natured fairytale set in the barren landscape of a Kazakh steppe, an environment where only shepherds live. Asa (Askhat Kuchinchirekov) returns from military service to live with his sister, Samal (Samal Yeslyamova), her husband, Ondas (Ondasyn Besikbasov), and their three children. Asa's dream is to have his own flock of sheep, but his boss tells him that until he gets married, his wish will never be granted.

The only trouble is that in this particular case, the candidates for potential wife can be counted on one finger. Her name is Tulpan, and though he's never seen her entire face, Asa is certain that she is the one for him. Unfortunately, she doesn't appear to feel the same way, complaining that his ears are too big. Yet Asa remains hopeful, envisioning the day when his dream will come true.
