ATTEND

Diplo dips into Florida

Diplo is a music producer behind some of M.I.A.'s biggest hits, including "Paper Planes" (which he also co-wrote). Diplo is an in-demand club deejay who usually works the decks at clubs in Rio, LA, London, Japan and throughout Europe.

Diplo is a former Daytona-area resident (a Mainland High grad) who now lives in Philly. He answers to the name Wes Pentz when he's not concocting hit remixes of Gwen Stefani or conjuring his urban, frantic, semi-freaky club beats.

Diplo is making a rare visit to his former turf. He'll be deejaying at 10 p.m. March 5 at Icon, 1 S. Orange Ave., Orlando. Admission is $10. Information: myspace.com/diplo, or the venue at 407-649-6496.

LISTEN

The truth is right here

What is Agent Fox Mulder of the "X-Files" doing these days? He's likely listening to shadowsinthedarkradio.com, an Internet talk radio site about all things supernatural and voody-hoodoody.

Sample of recent show topics: Haitian vodou (that's how Mulder-like insiders spell voodoo), druid magic, something called the "Starchild skulls" and the author of a book about "seven little people in brown robes that visited her and shared future visions."

New shows air at 9:30 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays.

Philosophy makes House calls

If you came down with some dire, mysterious disease, would you want a misanthropic, smart-ass doctor to take care of you?

You would if that doc is Gregory House, the title character of the hit TV series "House" starring Hugh Laurie. However, while curing your body, the acerbic House would be pimp-slapping your mind and emotions with his cynical world views.

It's those views that gave rise to the book "House and Philosophy: Everybody Lies," the latest tome in the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series. Herein various college philosophy professors have contributed such essays as "House and Sarte: 'Hell Is Other People'¤" and "¤'Being Nice Is Overrated': House and Socrates on the Necessity of Conflict."

The book, edited by Henry Jacoby, is in stores now.
