Big Bob finds new life
Bob Dylan's 1997 disc, "Time Out of Mind," was a bit of a rebirth for the grizzled troubadour, and he and his band furiously hit the road to tour behind it and subsequent releases.
April 28 finds yet another release of new tracks from Zimmy, "Together Through Life," as he teams up with Tom Petty's longtime guitarist Mike Campbell and Los Lobos co-founder David Hildago for his 46th album.
"Life" finds Dylan and Co. again worshiping at the altar of roots rock 'n' roll, with a bluesy set of ruminations on devil women, mariachi, gospel and the apocalypse. "Throw on the dust! Pile
on the dust!" shouts Dylan on "It's All Good," but one thing is certain about the legendary songwriter. He ain't letting any dust gather 'round him.

Catch guitar tutors on the 'Net
Sure, YouTube is a great place to watch monkeys washing cats or profane RV salesman Jack Rebney swatting at "jackass" flies, but did you know it can help you improve your guitar playing?
Need to know the chords to Weezer's "My Name is Jonas," from 1994's "Blue Album?" Type it in, dig a little and you'll find a handful of would-be guitar teachers who will walk you through it. Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah?" Yup, you can get schooled on playing that well-worn chestnut, as well.
To help wade through the chafe, type "How to play (your song inserted here) on guitar" and you should get dozens of hits. Now, we're not saying their all going to be winners, or in the right key for that matter, but keep looking and you'll be rewarded with a patient teacher who just wants to pass along their guitar chops to the masses. For free.

Familiar faces lurk behind Tinted Windows
For boomers, a "super group" that doesn't include the names Clapton and Winwood is a sham.
While Gen-X rock fans may not have blind faith in super groups, they may have found the closest they'll ever get to one with the band Tinted Windows. The group includes singer Taylor Hanson, he of "MMMBop" fame; guitarist James Iha, formerly of Smashing Pumpkins; bassist Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne; and drummer Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick.
No one would care except that T.W.'s new single, "Kind of a Girl," is the sweetest bite of guitar-driven pop-rock since Trick's Rick Nielsen strapped on his five-neck guitar for "I Want You to Want Me."
Check out the band at tintedwindowsmusic.com. Their self-titled debut album was released Tuesday.
