Dave Matthews pours "Whiskey"
How has the Dave Matthews Band coped musically with the August 2008 death of founding sax player LeRoi Moore?
Fans can find out right now, even though "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King," the new DMB album, isn't due in stores until June 2. The entire album currently is available for listen at pandora.com/davematthewsband.
Yes, Dave and company deliver a few mellow tunes, but "Whiskey" is surprisingly feisty and riff-heavy thanks to such songs as "Shake Me Like a Monkey" and "Seven." And on the spirited rocker "Why I Am," Matthews pays tribute to his late friend by singing, "Still dancing with the GrooGrux King" -- which was Moore's nickname.
Want more Dave? The band's concert June 1 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City will be telecast live beginning at 9 p.m. on Fuse TV and streamed on Hulu.com.

Radiohead takes four Vitamins
The Vitamin String Quartet is a collective of Los Angeles violinists, viola players and cellists who didn't figure out their chosen instruments weren't very rock 'n' roll until it was too late.
No problem. Instead of sticking themselves with all that Mozart and Bach stuff, the VSQ lads and lasses have churned out string quartet versions of works by Metallica, Weezer, Tool, Death Cab For Cutie, Queen, Nirvana and even Kanye West.
VSQ's latest two albums, both due out June 2 include a strung-out version of Radiohead's entire "In Rainbows" album, and a compilation titled "Per Versions," which includes stringy covers of songs by Sigur Ros, Tom Waits, the Decemberists, Broken Social Scene, Animal Collective and others.

Treasure trove for Young fans
As box sets go, this one is a behemoth.
Neil Young's much anticipated and seemingly forever in the making "Archives Vol. 1: 1963-1972" is set to be released Tuesday and it's a whopper.
Here's what you'll get: 10 discs, 128 tracks, 43 unreleased recordings, three live concerts, Young's debut feature film, "Journey Through The Past," released for the first time since its first run in 1974 and a 236-page full-color hardcover book. Trusses are not included.
The box set chronicles Young's career from the Squires to Buffalo Springfield up through the 1972 classic and No. 1 album, "Harvest." And what's the price tag for this monster? You can pre-order the Blu-ray set on amazon.com for $289.99, the standard DVD set for $199.99 and the CD package for $71.99.
And what about us pauper Young fans? Well, we heard ol' Neil say that each disc will be sold separately in all formats.
