Endless Summer? Nope.

Endless Summer? The Beach Boys gave life -- and a soundtrack -- to that myth. But the myth is not to be. Summer ends.

And with the approaching end of summer at Daytona Beach comes the end of the Bandshell's two annual summer concert series: Bandshell Live!, the Friday night series, and the Friends of the Bandshell series on Saturdays.

Both series conclude this weekend at the historic venue on the beach behind the Ocean Walk Shoppes, 250 N. Atlantic Ave.

Here's a glimpse of who's taking the stage. Admission to each night is free.

The Halifax Contraband may be the only music group in the world who bill one of its members as "singer/songwriter/historian." The local lads describe their music as "swamp stompin', hardcore, folkin' Cracker rock," and the band historian is singer-guitarist August Wenger.

Why an historian? Because Wenger, guitarist-bassist Matt Meehan and company craft songs that, according to their MySpace page, "describe life in Florida from the distant past to the ever present." That includes songs about Florida's first settlers, a slave uprising in Volusia County in the early 1800s, "dreaded pirates, infamous moonshiners and rumrunners, Seminole warriors, bank-robbing villains, stock car races on the beach and wild rampaging cattle."

The band also goes the modern route in songs about "losing the blues, growing up as an upper middle-class white boy, warnings about Amsterdam, falling in love and broken hearts."

The band also includes mandolin player Jason "Fancy Pants" Miller, guitarist Mike O'Brien and percussionist Matt Miller.

The Halifax Contraband performs at 8:30 p.m. today. Also on the bill: Modern original funk, soul and rock with Minister Theory at 7:30 p.m.; original modern and roots rock with the Park-O-Lators, a guitar-drum duo featuring husband-and-wife team Clayton and Susan Park, at 7 p.m. (look for the duo to feature their song "Undercover Rock Star"); and Troy & Jimmy Trentini at 6:30 p.m.

Sept. 5

BSHOW-10GM.JPGArea blues man Mark Hodgson has crafted rollicking tributes to such blues legends as Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and harmonica player Little Walter.

However, for his Bandshell date at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Hodgson will be backed by his Extreme Blues Band.

It's "experimental blues," says the singer, guitarist and harmonica player. The band includes drummer Michael Welch, bassist Jon Warcholak and guitarist Kris Gruda.

Fireworks will follow Saturday's concert.
